The clear cool mountain lake provides a perfect setting for the novice and experienced angler. Both trolling and shoreline fishing are popular. If you are new to trout fishing, your host can probably help.
Huntington Lake offers water related activities of fishing, swimming, water skiing, sailing and kayaking.
Many hiking opportunities, mountain bike trails and Geocaches are around the lake and among nearby mountains that provide spectacular scenery and activities for the enjoyment of our guests. Check our Facebook page for photos of some of these opportunities.
HuntingtonLake.info has a calendar of activities around the lake and other useful information.
The US Forest Service says "Huntington Lake is one of California's premier sailing lakes. Nearly five miles long, this lake is surrounded by mountains on three sides and contained on its western end by three dams. On summer days, hot air from the central San Joaquin Valley expands and rises up the canyon, forcing cool air that has settled above the lake at night into the mountains above. This thermal effect produces consistent afternoon westerly winds averaging 15 mph - ideal for sailing."
A stable at the lake offers horseback rides for full and half day trips.
Read Los Angeles Times writer Thomas Curwen's account of his stay at Lakeview Cottages and his poetic piece on the process of closing the resort for the winter "An elegy for summertime: At a small resort in the Sierra, the cabins are boarded up for winter. It's a ritual of time and memory."
